1. New Modules

Perhaps one of the most exciting parts of announcing new Annual Releases is when we get to discuss some of the new modules in the StableNet® platform. The following state-of-the-art modules provide insight into some of the larger projects that have gone on behind the scenes.

NETCONF/YANG View

NETCONF serves the purpose of configuration and automation in a machine-readable format. It is structured and typically defined using YANG models and is transaction-oriented, featuring rollback and commit functionalities. Last year we already introduced the first basic features in StableNet® 24.

With the new annual release, StableNet® now features a NETCONF/YANG view, offering a new way to manage devices using NETCONF and YANG models. With this added capability, devices can be directly configured via NETCONF, with configuration snippets following a structured template defined by the YANG model.

These YANG models can be downloaded and managed from the devices. They can also be used to create NETCONF snippets and visualize them graphically. Using the integrated Visual Editor, users can not only create configuration snippets in a clear and intuitive graphical interface but also represent the entire configuration visually. These snippets can then be utilized in NETCONF jobs to greatly simplify device configuration.

Progressive Web App (PWA) Support

The StableNet Portal® now supports Progressive Web App (PWA) functionality.

Progressive Web Apps combine the best features of web and native apps. They are fast and can be accessed directly through any browser without the need for downloads or installations.

This allows the StableNet® Portal to operate like a native app—providing a faster and more convenient user experience without requiring installation.

Quick Search

In previous releases, users had to know exactly where to find the devices and measurements they needed. With StableNet® 25 this search is now easier than ever.

The new Quick Search feature enables efficient searching for devices and measurements across the entire StableNet® platform, regardless of the current view. This addition empowers all users, including those with less experience, to quickly find exactly what they need.

The new icon in the top right corner provides direct access to the search function, ensuring quick and easy access.

Traceroute Dialog

Traceroute is a network diagnostic tool that maps the path data takes from a source to a destination, identifying each hop and measuring delays and thus provides critical information about network paths and performance, enabling faster pinpointing of bottlenecks and improving service reliability.

The added Traceroute dialog provides detailed insights into network connections and paths. This feature allows for a visual representation of the routing between a custom endpoint (e.g., a server or client) and an StableNet® Agent. It helps analyze the connection path as well as the data transmission delays.

2. Module Enhancements

In StableNet®, features and functionalities are categorized according to “Modules”. Check out our latest improvements to the core of StableNet®.

Agent Repository: Automatic Update of StableNet® Agents

The StableNet® Agent Repository is used to synchronize settings, modules, scripts and license files to StableNet® Agents. The data to be synchronized is fetched from specific folders in the StableNet® Server or the database and is distributed to the StableNet® Agents.

However, with previous StableNet releases, the installation itself still had to be performed manually.

With StableNet® 25, an automatic agent update for Linux is introduced. The installer only needs to be uploaded once centrally to the StableNet® server. From there, updates are automatically distributed to and installed on all connected agents, eliminating the need for manual installation on each individual agent. This enhancement significantly simplifies and streamlines agent management.

Service View in Geo Map

For a long time already, the Geo Map in StableNet® offers a visual representation of devices and alarms in the network. This view helps identify bottlenecks, assess overall network health, and pinpoint geographic areas where performance or capacity issues may arise.

In addition to devices and alarms, network services, e.g. routing protocols, Label-Switched Paths, Virtual Private Networks or other, can now also be displayed directly on the Geo Map. This enhancement makes the Geo Map an even more powerful view for comprehensive network oversight.

Tag Filter Panel

The tag filter panel allows to build tag filters composed of various filter types and multiple subfilters. Since these filters can be very complex, the tag filter panel has been extensively enhanced and now offers two modes to meet different needs: The Simple Mode and the Tag Filter Query Language (TFQL) Mode.

The Simple Mode, adapted from the Rich Client, significantly enhances the usability of building tag filters. Filters can be effortlessly added by simply entering them on a new row in the format tag category, filter type, and value.

The TFQL Mode is designed for advanced users, enabling precise configuration of tag filters using the specialized TFQL syntax. A convenient auto-completion feature assists in entering queries quickly and accurately.

Template Manager Overhaul

The Template Manager in StableNet® has been significantly improved. One of the key new features is the ability to edit templates directly within the manager, eliminating the need to switch to the Template Editor. This integration creates a more intuitive and seamless working environment.

Additionally, the Template Manager now includes an auto-preview feature and a comparison view for different template versions, making the search for previous versions and fixing template issues much more efficient. Users can also create a job directly from a template via a right-click within the Template Manager, removing the need to switch between views.

Another enhancement is the intelligent version summary. Each template is displayed in a single row, and its different versions can be viewed with a click. Furthermore, the newly added quick filters enable faster filtering by template types.

UX & Design Optimizations

We’re always striving to make StableNet® even smoother, faster, and more intuitive. With StableNet® 25, you’ll truly notice how the portal is becoming more cohesive, allowing you to dive deeper into details with drill-downs—saving you the need to switch views. And if you do switch, cached view settings ensure nothing gets lost. Plus, the redesigned, space-saving interface across StableNet® lets you see more data at a glance.

Here’s an overview of the most important changes. Don’t forget to browse through the images as well—after all, a picture is worth a thousand words!

  • Additional drill-downs/links within views
  • Expanded context menus and key actions in toolbars
  • Improved accessibility for color usage
  • Caching of Views

  • More responsive design
  • More user-friendly and space-saving tables
  • Toolbar-Optimization
  • Wizard homepage with explanations and links to the documentation

3. Infrastructure

Enhanced Security

2FA

StableNet® now supports 2-Factor Authentication (2FA) to enhance security and meet the latest compliance standards, such as PCI-DSS and the upcoming NIS-2 requirements.

This 2FA implementation leverages the industry-standard Time-Based One-Time Password (TOTP) system, compatible with widely used authenticator apps like Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Apple Passwords, and the open-source 2FAS. The setup is straightforward and secure: users activate 2FA in a two-stage process, where each user alone can access their unique 2FA seed. Once 2FA is configured for a user, they must complete the setup at their next login.

To further protect accounts, automatic account blocking is in place. After five consecutive failed login attempts, an account is temporarily blocked for one hour by default. Admin users with the appropriate permissions can manually unblock accounts as needed.

New Password Policies

Administrators can configure six password parameters to align with organizational standards. By default, passwords must be at least 8 characters long and include at least three of the following character classes: lowercase letters, uppercase letters, digits, and special characters.

The password policy is enforced at login, meaning users with non-compliant passwords are prompted to update to a secure, compliant password before proceeding. This update ensures stronger account protection and helps maintain adherence to security best practices.

Module Controller (Phase 2)

The modularization of StableNet® is still in progress, bringing several advantages. The Module Controller enables individual updates, offering flexibility for targeted improvements such as support for specific vendors or technologies. Additionally, this approach greatly enhances scalability.

Wildfly Application Server Update to 32.0 and Java Update to 21

With the release of StableNet® 25, the platform has been updated to leverage the latest versions of critical infrastructure components to ensure compliance, security, and optimal performance. The new infrastructure includes:
  • WildFly Application Server updated to version 32.0
  • Java updated to version 21
