NIS2 and StableNet®: A Critical Building Block for Compliance

August 7th 2024, Würzburg

What is NIS2?

As most of you certainly already are aware of, the Network and Information Systems Directive 2 (NIS2) is an updated EU-wide cybersecurity directive aimed at enhancing the security and resilience of critical infrastructure and digital services. NIS2 builds upon its predecessor, the original NIS Directive, by introducing stricter security requirements, expanding the scope of regulated entities, and improving incident response and reporting mechanisms. It is set to come into effect in October 2024, with member states required to transpose its provisions into national law by this deadline. Just a couple weeks ago on July 24th, 2024, the directive was officially approved and cleared by the German Federal Cabinet (for more information in German see HERE).

NIS2 will impact a broad range of sectors and services, including energy, transport, banking, health, water supply, and digital infrastructure. Additionally, it extends its reach to include important digital services such as cloud computing, data centers, and online marketplaces. The directive aims to create a more robust cybersecurity framework across the EU, ensuring that both public and private entities adopt strong security measures, improve their risk management practices, and enhance their ability to respond to and recover from cyber incidents. By doing so, NIS2 seeks to protect the EU’s digital economy and society from the growing threats posed by cyberattacks.

How StableNet® can help achieve compliance with NIS2

The StableNet® automated network and service management solution is a vital building block for companies of all sizes and industries striving to achieve compliance with NIS2. In addition to being able to manage even the most complex network infrastructures, StableNet® supports adherence to NIS2’s stringent regulatory requirements through a comprehensive suite of features designed to enhance cybersecurity, minimize risks, and provide the foundation for reliable operational integrity.

Robust Policy Checking:

StableNet® ensures that both industry and company-specific policies are consistently enforced across the entire network. By automating policy checking, organizations can detect and rectify deviations in real-time, reducing the likelihood of human error and ensuring compliance with NIS2’s stringent security measures.

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA):

StableNet® integrates with authentication systems to enforce 2FA, adding an extra layer of security. This reduces the risk of unauthorized access, protecting against threats such as phishing and credential theft, and meeting NIS2’s access control requirements.

Proactive End-of-Life Management:

StableNet®’s platform tracks end-of-life dates for network devices from various vendors, providing automated alerts and reports. This proactive approach ensures timely replacement or upgrades, mitigating risks associated with outdated technology and maintaining compliance with NIS2.

Network Backups:

The platform offers comprehensive network backup solutions, ensuring data recovery and business continuity in the event of a security incident. This capability is crucial for maintaining operational integrity and meeting NIS2’s requirements for resilience and reliability.

Advanced Vulnerability Management:

StableNet®’s platform includes automated scanning to identify a constantly updated list of network vulnerabilities of devices by multiple vendors. By integrating threat intelligence and conducting continuous risk assessments, organizations can stay ahead of emerging threats and ensure their security measures align with NIS2 standards.

Reporting Functionalities:

Detailed and automated reporting features support compliance by providing the necessary documentation for regulatory audits. These reports help organizations demonstrate adherence to NIS2’s requirements and facilitate transparent communication with authorities.

Detailed Logging Capabilities:

Comprehensive logging of network activities is essential for incident detection, response, and analysis. StableNet®’s platform enables centralized log management, making it easier to search, analyze, and correlate data, thus supporting NIS2’s stringent incident reporting requirements.

NIS2 and StableNet®

By leveraging the StableNet® automated network and service management platform, organizations can build a secure, resilient network environment. These features collectively enhance cybersecurity, minimize operational risks, and provide a robust foundation for maintaining continuous operational integrity, ensuring that companies can meet the demands of NIS2 compliance effectively.
