Quantum-based infrastructure networks for safety-critical wireless data communications.

General Information

Within QuINSiDa (Quantenbasierte Infrastruktur Netze für Sicherheitskritische drahtlose Datenkommunikation), the two technologies Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) and Light Fidelity (Li-Fi) are integrated into a common system for the first time. QKD is the basis of quantum cryptography and enables secure communication and data transfer based on fundamental physical properties, whose security can be proven by information theory. Li-Fi is an optical wireless technology for data transmission with high rates and works with visible light or infrared radiation. An existing QKD link could thus be connected to a “QKD over Li-Fi” endpoint and provide users in a campus network architecture directly with QKD keys.

Project Goal

At the end of the project, a demonstration of the overall system is planned, which will bring together the technologies in the network and thus make previously unexplored and unachieved use cases possible. Partners within the Project are KEEQuant from Fürth, TELCO TECH from Teltow, BESCom Elektronic from Hamburg and the two Fraunhofer Institutes IOF (Jena) and IPMS (Dresden) as scientific research partners. The project is founded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with a duration of three years.

Infosim® – Our Focus

Infosim’s work will focus on the various network management components for the overall system architecture, monitoring and component control. For visualization purposes, the development of dashboards is also planned, which will be made available to various user groups and equipped with an interface to the management system, as well as allowing control of the subcomponents.
