QONCERT

Automation of quality inspection and commercialization of secondary plastics

Objective

The Circular Economy is one of the greatest tasks of our time. This is particularly true for plastic, for which “reduce, reuse and recycle” must be urgently improved in order to reduce raw material consumption. The EU in its Circular Economy Action Plan also demands this. Meanwhile, the plastics industry is struggling with the problem that too few high-quality secondary plastics are available to achieve these goals. We are addressing this challenge with our QONCERT research project to improve the availability and quality of secondary plastics with the help of software.

Implementation

The project focuses on automating both the quality inspection and the commercialization of secondary plastics with the help of data, processes and the combination of new web technology, AI engine and custom-fit interfaces – on one digital platform.

QONCERT intends to achieve the following goals: Plastics processors and recyclers will be able to use the software to market their plastic waste and recyclates simultaneously through multiple sales channels, such as online marketplaces, with minimal effort.

Additionally, testing to assess the qualitative properties of materials will be digitally integrated into this process to increase efficiency. Required evidence such as test reports and certificates can then be provided more quickly.

With the ‘QONCERT’ project, we are creating the greatest possible integration of material testing in the trade in recycling materials, thus enabling the widespread use of these raw materials.

Our contribution

Infosim’s tasks in this project include the design and implementation of the central web application, the newly developed components, e.g. for digital testing services, and the required interfaces. This also includes the development of an ontology-based data model that will ensure the required interoperability and at the same time serve as the basis for two central components of QONCERT: intelligent data analysis and forecasting functionalities.
