General Information

Advancing digitization in business and industry means that information and processes are increasingly being captured and used digitally. This makes it possible for previously unrecognized relationships to be made explicit, which are of significant importance for necessary decision-making processes. Examples of such information are communication structures and data flows in IT networks, industrial component structures and functional networks of complex machines. For them, graphs are a natural representation.

Due to the digitization efforts of companies, such graphs increasingly have to be created and, moreover, maintained in view of their increasing size and complexity. A particular challenge is posed by the multitude of users with their very different requirements for the visualization of these graphs.

Project Goal

In the course of ZiNsVis, customizable visualizations and interactions for industrial networks (i.e., procedures, methods, and tools) will be developed to facilitate manual analysis and maintenance as well as understanding for users. This will significantly increase the accessibility of complex information and contexts, which in turn will help companies better meet the challenges of digitization. In parallel, the state of the art in science is also being advanced.

The following figure describes the main topics (stable interaction, drawing styles and mental models as well as labels) that are focused on in the course of ZiNsVis in the area of network visualization.

Overview of the application scenarios and targeted functions

Infosim® – Our Focus

In addition to leading the consortium, Infosim GmbH & Co. KG brings the perspective of a manufacturer of software for network management. This means that Infosim can formulate practical requirements for the application scenario visualisation of IT networks and will implement corresponding techniques within the framework of the project, which will ultimately flow into the development of a demonstrator.
