The design and integration of robotic-based automation solutions is a common problem for robotic component providers and especially for their consumers.
The concept of the project ROBOTOP is to develop an open platform for the SME market. The platform acts as a market place to configure robots for service, logistics and production applications. The platform considers intelligent, standardized and re-usable hard- and software components to configure individual robotic solutions. Before the final installation is established, the solution is simulated as a 3D computer-generated image. An implemented catalogue with questions is used to ensure that all the requirements are fulfilled. Using the platform the required effort for offers and engineering developments, as well as cost for planning and configuration for individual robotic solutions can be reduced dramatically.
The result of the project is a standardized robot configurator, based on a modular system architecture and best practice solutions. Due to this modular structure, as a backbone of an intuitive web-based configurator, customized robot applications can easily be planned, visualized, simulated and finally realized. The system architecture of the presented robotic configurator is based on microservices, which is a modern, scalable and complexity-reducing solution for the overall system.
