General Information

The digitalization of many economic and social processes creates an opportunity for cities to improve the quality of living for its inhabitants. Examples of topics to be focused on are sustainability, social activities and ecological activities. The Smart City concept – and Open Data City as its extension – is expected to become the standard in the digitalization sector.

The base for this development was the connection of different areas in a Smart City context with wide area network technologies like Low Power Wide Area Networks (LPWAN) and 5G. Furthermore, the development of a platform to connect the different elements is of high interest.

Project Goal

The goal of the project 5MART was to investigate the combination of different communication techniques (5G, LoRaWAN) and different approaches for Open Data City Platforms with Internet of Things (IoT) concepts. This project was a cooperation of the industry partner Infosim® and the university of Würzburg. One main work item was a prototype Smart City infrastructure and an Open Data City Platform within the city of Würzburg.

Infosim® – Our Focus

The main task of Infosim® in the project was the configuration and monitoring of the network devices, an open data platform, and the integration of the various components of the project.
